An eighteenth-century stone house in the heart of Bordeaux

Hôtel de Tourny occupies an eighteenth-century Bordeaux building on rue Huguerie, one of those blond stone facades that give the city its unity. The renovation left the architecture visible, the stonework and the proportions of the period, and set contemporary designer furniture against it. The effect is deliberately restrained: clean lines, quiet materials, nothing that competes with the building itself. The house belongs to the Hôtels de Charme et de Caractère label, which gathers independent properties judged on exactly this kind of balance.

Twelve rooms, four categories

The hotel holds twelve rooms only, from 13 to 25 square metres, in four categories: Single, Comfort, Superior and Executive. The scale is part of the proposition, since a house of this size adjusts to its guests rather than the reverse. Premium bedding is a stated priority, the rooms are soundproofed, and a lift serves all three floors. One room is fitted for guests with reduced mobility, which remains uncommon in a heritage building of this period.

Breakfast and the daily rhythm

Breakfast is continental, built on fresh bread and pastries, cold cuts, cheese, yoghurt, cereals and a regional cake, and it can be served in the room. Reception is staffed twenty-four hours a day in French, English and Spanish, with concierge service, express check-in and check-out, luggage storage, and same-day dry cleaning and ironing. Late check-out and upgrades are offered when the house can.

A green key and a light footprint

The hotel holds the Clef Verte certification, the French branch of the international Green Key programme for tourist accommodation. It is a useful signal for travellers who pay attention to how a property is run, and it fits the format: a small independent house rather than a large operation.

Between the Allées de Tourny and the Quinconces

Rue Huguerie runs between Place des Quinconces and the Jardin Public, a position that puts the Allées de Tourny, the Grand Théâtre and the golden triangle within a few minutes on foot. The Chartrons district, with its antique dealers, wine merchants and Sunday quayside market, lies just to the north, and the tram is close enough to reach the rest of the city without moving the car. Drivers use the Q-Park Clemenceau car park two hundred metres away, where the hotel has negotiated a preferential rate.

Why we selected it

This is a design boutique hotel at the scale of a private house, in a heritage building, in the part of the centre where most visitors actually want to be. For a couple or a solo traveller looking for a considered address in Bordeaux without the machinery of a large hotel, it does the job precisely.
