Life Hotels runs its Bordeaux house on a straightforward idea, summed up by the group's promise of feeling better than at home: the bedroom is for sleeping, and everything else happens downstairs. Behind the facade on rue de Tauzia, 57 rooms sit above a shared floor treated as the main space rather than a lobby to cross. Rattan chairs and deep red banquettes surround long communal tables, plants climb the partitions, and the counter stays in use from breakfast through to the evening.

Four room layouts, from Cocoon to Room Office

The house works with four categories. Cocoon Double takes one or two guests, Cocoon Triple adds a convertible bed, Famille sleeps up to four, and Room Office hides a wall bed so the room doubles as a workspace. All are built on queen beds of 160 by 200, with Chromecast on the screen and eco labelled toiletries in bathrooms finished with round mirrors, wooden vanities and walk in rainfall showers. The rooms are compact and functional rather than generous, and they are soundproofed, which counts this close to the tracks.

A fitness room, a library and a coworking corner

Bordeaux is the group's address with a dedicated fitness room, backed by workout videos available at reception and in the rooms. Beside it, a library built on book exchange and local titles, a shelf of board games, a shared lounge and evening entertainment give the ground floor its rhythm. The coworking corner runs on fibre, with unlimited coffee, secure lockers and snacking through the day, and meeting facilities are available for small groups. The team, known as the Lifeurs, handles local recommendations.

Homemade breakfast and the Green Key label

Breakfast is served in a green walled room off the lounge, built on local products, homemade pastries and freshly pressed orange juice. The bar pours regional wines alongside alcohol free options. The group holds the Green Key label across its houses, with a rigorous sorting and recycling system, a scheme that turns a skipped housekeeping round into a donation to environmental causes, beehive sponsorship and climate workshops open to guests.

Tauzia tram stop, minutes from Saint Jean

The address sits in Belcier, the quarter rebuilt around Saint Jean station. The Tauzia tram stop, on lines C and D, is a few steps from the door, with several bus routes alongside, and the station itself is under ten minutes on foot. Saint Michel and its Sunday market are around fifteen minutes away, the quays and Place de la Bourse a little beyond, and the Rock School Barbey concert hall stands in the same streets. Secure bike storage and a position on the Vélodyssée route serve cyclists, and there is parking on site, luggage storage, a 24 hour desk and a welcome for pets.

We kept this address for travellers who arrive by train and want a comfortable, well run base rather than a grand one. The shared floor, the fitness room and the coworking corner make it work for a long weekend, a family stopover and a working week alike, and the environmental commitment runs through the house rather than sitting on a sign.
